A bone-weary Don Quixote stumbles into the sun-parched plaza of a sinister tropical seaport, falls asleep and dreams . . . and into his crazy, cosmic night visions wander some of literature’s biggest misfits. First produced on Broadway in 1953, Camino Real is a jazzy, fresh and unexpected blend of music, dance and poetry—a dazzlingly theatrical and deeply personal ode to the free spirit.

Trapped in a claustrophobic
hometown they hate,
but terrified of leaving,
a group of aimless young
people spend their nights
hanging out in a convenience
store parking lot. A
high school friend returns
to expose the lies in
their empty lives. The
New York Times said
the play is “Chekhov
high on speed and Twinkies.”
